Using Health & Diet to Fight Depression

I know that saying this is wayyy easier than actually doing this but it’s truly possible.

I don’t know if you ever noticed when you are on a diet and eating healthy, that you “feel better.”

Ever think there is some truth behind this?

For me, I know Y’all have heard me say that this is one “big cycle” and when your depressed (at least in my case) you want to eat poorly because you are stressed out or want to feel better or both.

we need to break this cycle! now i’m sounding like an 80’s song …

Now, I am definitely not saying to not take your meds or see your doctor…not at all..heck you NEED a support system…

What I am saying is that the road to feeling better can be a long one and focusing on your diet & health can really help…

5 Small Steps You Can Take To Start Feeling Better

  1. Yoga
  2. Walking
  3. Staying Hydrated
  4. Sleep
  5. Taking a Multi-Vitamin

Yoga

Ok, I know your thinking, really? How is yoga gonna help my depression…

Don’t knock it till you try it…

Depression has a way of sucking the life out of you. It mentally and physically drains you – every bit

Yoga helps with a variety of issues:

  • relaxing
  • meditation
  • fatigue
  • stress
  • anxiety
  • strength
  • posture
  • energy

There is so many more but I think you get the just…the best part about it is there is soooo many ways now that you can take 5 minutes and just do it!

I have a Fitbit Versa (love love love) and it has all kinds of neat gadgets that help me incorporate this into my daily routine without even thinking about it.

Walking

This is my favorite past time.

My biggest issue is taking the time out of my extremely hectic day to actually do it.

But if your anything like me, I can get my headphones on, get my current book rolling and dive deep into my thoughts…

Walking is great for your mind, body & soul…

You may not lose weight doing it but it keeps you active & healthy.

Staying Hydrated

Your Body Needs Water!

This is a no-brainer… water has so many benefits:

  • flush out toxins
  • boost energy levels
  • improve digestion
  • relieves headaches
  • promote weight loss
  • cleanses the liver
  • healthy skin
  • strong hair & nails

The list goes on.

Its simple people, drink water = feel better.

Sleep

Ok now also an easy one. I’m not talking the wake up every hour because my baby is crying or watch law and order until the wee hours of the morning then fall asleep sleep…

Im talking “real” restful sleep…

  • Sleep helps your memory
  • puts you in a better mood
  • reduces depression
  • helps with weight
  • improves energy
  • strengthens your immune system
  • reduces stress

and on and on I could go…

If you are not sure how to get this restful sleep, try some of these suggestions…

  1. soothing sounds
  2. read a book
  3. limit screen time
  4. yoga
  5. chamomile tea
  6. make your bedroom for sleeping (this is def my struggle)

Now that I gave you some awesome ideas, go start making your new bedtime routine a reality & Get some good sleep!

Taking a Multi-Vitamin

You may have not known this or maybe you did, but vitamin deficiencies can actually cause depression.

By identifying these deficiencies and taking the supplements your body needs could be a step in the right direction on the long road back…
