Using Health & Diet to Fight Depression

I know that saying this is wayyy easier than actually doing this but it’s truly possible.

I don’t know if you ever noticed when you are on a diet and eating healthy, that you “feel better.”

Ever think there is some truth behind this?

For me, I know Y’all have heard me say that this is one “big cycle” and when your depressed (at least in my case) you want to eat poorly because you are stressed out or want to feel better or both.

we need to break this cycle! now i’m sounding like an 80’s song …

Now, I am definitely not saying to not take your meds or see your doctor…not at all..heck you NEED a support system…

What I am saying is that the road to feeling better can be a long one and focusing on your diet & health can really help…

5 Small Steps You Can Take To Start Feeling Better

  1. Yoga
  2. Walking
  3. Staying Hydrated
  4. Sleep
  5. Taking a Multi-Vitamin

Ok, I know your thinking, really? How is yoga gonna help my depression…

Don’t knock it till you try it…

Depression has a way of sucking the life out of you. It mentally and physically drains you – every bit

Yoga helps with a variety of issues:

  • relaxing
  • meditation
  • fatigue
  • stress
  • anxiety
  • strength
  • posture
  • energy

There is so many more but I think you get the just…the best part about it is there is soooo many ways now that you can take 5 minutes and just do it!

I have a Fitbit Versa (love love love) and it has all kinds of neat gadgets that help me incorporate this into my daily routine without even thinking about it.

This is my favorite past time.

My biggest issue is taking the time out of my extremely hectic day to actually do it.

But if your anything like me, I can get my headphones on, get my current book rolling and dive deep into my thoughts…

Walking is great for your mind, body & soul…

You may not lose weight doing it but it keeps you active & healthy.

Staying Hydrated

Your Body Needs Water!

This is a no-brainer… water has so many benefits:

  • flush out toxins
  • boost energy levels
  • improve digestion
  • relieves headaches
  • promote weight loss
  • cleanses the liver
  • healthy skin
  • strong hair & nails

The list goes on.

Its simple people, drink water = feel better.

Ok now also an easy one. I’m not talking the wake up every hour because my baby is crying or watch law and order until the wee hours of the morning then fall asleep sleep…

Im talking “real” restful sleep…

  • Sleep helps your memory
  • puts you in a better mood
  • reduces depression
  • helps with weight
  • improves energy
  • strengthens your immune system
  • reduces stress

and on and on I could go…

If you are not sure how to get this restful sleep, try some of these suggestions…

  1. soothing sounds
  2. read a book
  3. limit screen time
  4. yoga
  5. chamomile tea
  6. make your bedroom for sleeping (this is def my struggle)

Now that I gave you some awesome ideas, go start making your new bedtime routine a reality & Get some good sleep!

Taking a Multi-Vitamin

You may have not known this or maybe you did, but vitamin deficiencies can actually cause depression.

By identifying these deficiencies and taking the supplements your body needs could be a step in the right direction on the long road back…

I could give you a bunch of different amazing supplements that you could take but every person is different and you honestly need to do some research to find what works for you…

Some deficiencies that cause depression are…

  • Folate
  • Zinc
  • Selenium
  • Omega 3- Fatty Acids
  • Magnesium
  • Vitamin D
  • Iron
  • Iodine

So now that you know, what are you going to do about it?

One small step is a step in the right direction.

So on top of being a full time mom, a full time wife, a full time entrepreneur, I am also in training right now for a contract with Intuit Quickbooks. I will be working in customer service.

Crazy, I know.

But until something amazing happens with my “other” full-time job, I have to still have an income to help support my family.

So this training is really kicking my butt. I use quickbooks in my own business and absolutely love it but there is soooo much more to learn!

I feel like my brain is “fried” by the end of the day from all the numbers. I totally have mad respect for accountants, I don’t know how you do it!

One more week and I will be off and taking calls…not sure what scares me more…

Sometimes I honestly wonder why anyone would want to bring kids into this world…

Everything is so backwards

I remember being young and how naive we all were… we wanted to be a doctor, a cop, a vet, a fireman, a teacher… honorable professions right?

Today, the only thing you can really tell your kids to be is an Actor or a Professional Sports Player because in “real life” they are ones who live well…

This is a very sad realization…

Teachers are the ones who mold our children (next to “parents”) into who they could be…

why would we pay an “Actor” more than we would pay a teacher?

why do i feel like i am drowning in a pool of stress… so much to do and so little time… losing weight is not working… i wake up everyday and say, “today will be the day” and then i “stress eat” ugghhh i know i have to lose weight for my health but why does it have to be so hard…

Last night, I had the craziest dream, I was dreaming about when I was in my early 20’s, at that time I had an abusive boyfriend/fiance…

I was woking as a hostess in a Bob Evans and I was working and he came in and slapped me across my face in front of everyone… customers & staff…

I remember walking out crying, never looking back… I can’t remember why he did it but does it really matter anyhow? I think back now, what was I thinking?

…Domestic Abuse is no joke.

I don’t pray but I can’t help but “pray” that my kids don’t put themselves in the situations I did.

Next, to having them, the best thing that happened to me was meeting my husband. He saved me…

Just got done feeding the ponies, chickens and goats…It’s almost dark and the kids are in the kitchen while I’m cooking dinner…

Susie, my Juliana Mini (not so mini) Pig is snorting the kitchen dry looking for any morsels she can find…

Damien has one of my magazines and he is ripping it up page by page dropping the pages onto the floor…

London is opening and closing the freezer…

Brooklin is attempting to do her homework on the tile kitchen floor rather than sitting at the table…

My husband is on his way home from his daily hour and half commute from West Coast Florida…

If you would have asked me 15 years ago, what my future would be like, I could guarantee you it wouldn’t have been anywhere near my current reality…

How to Save Money on Printer Ink

I don’t know about you but I print a lot!

Between kids school stuff, my business stuff and just plain everyday stuff; my printer gets a ton of action!

So with that means constant replacement of printer cartridges~ ughhh!!

I hate that cause you know you hardly get any use out of it before it runs out of ink and if you mess up some pages; don’t even get me started!

To contain the evil side of me, I decided to find another way.

I remembered several years back knowing a guy who knew a guy who owned a shop that “refilled printer cartridges.”

He was part of that whole, “going green” movement and to be honest his shop was slamming 24/7…

I did some research on how to do this myself, not open the business but refill my own cartridges at home. It’s actually pretty simple.

And guess what else?!? Soooo much cheaper!!!!! Yay!!!

I started by finding the best deal on ink which I found to be Amazon. Under $10 bucks with free shipping; woohoo!!

Lets do a cost comparison…

  • Refill Ink Cartridge – $7-10 for the kit to refill both (approx. 4-6 times)
  • Buy New Ink Cartridge – $12-18 for Black/ $15-20 for Color

Now you tell me which is the better deal?!

Once you have purchased your ink which I preferred to buy the kit because it makes way more sense and it ultimately is cheaper in the long run. But they do sell the ink colors individually as well…

What you will need:

  • Printer cartridge
  • Paper Towels/ Old Dish Towel
  • Disposable Gloves
  • Bottles of Ink or Kit
Don’t Forget Your Gloves!

How to Refill Your Ink Cartridges

  1. Layout several layers of paper towel or old dish towel folded to protect the surface from ink (very hard to get out)
  2. Put on your disposable gloves
  3. Remove the sticker off the top of the cartridge
  4. Insert the needle of the ink into one of the holes in the cartridge until it hits the sponge (on some cartridges, you may need to use a small screwdriver to make the hole; in a kit, this is included)
  5. Very carefully and slowly fill the cartridge with ink. If the ink begins to come out of the hole then you are filling too fast! Let the ink settle and then start again. Most ink cartridges hold about 1 Tablespoon of ink so be mindful of the amount you are using.
  6. Replace the printer cartridge in your printer and WAIT for at least a few hours before using. I knowwww this is not going to help you if you have to print right away but the ink needs time to settle. (A Secret: If you are in an absolute bind like I put myself in allll the time; you can wrap the cartridge in a towel, “holes” side up and tap lightly on a hard surface).

Now I know not all printer cartridges are the same but the concept is similar for each cartridge. You may have to google your specific cartridge to find a youtube video but the main point is that, “you just saved a bunch of money!”

I don’t know about you but saving money makes me happy 🙂

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I’m always here to help!

Meet A Small Business Owner ~ An Interview

My name is  Doniele Disney and I have owned 4 businesses and am working on starting a Non-Profit Rescue for Farm Animals.

But at the moment I only have (2) that are currently active.

I will be talking about my business, Poppies Famous Products.

Poppie’s Paint Powder is an additive you put in “any paint, any color” to make chalk paint for refinishing furniture & diy’ers

Some Background:

Poppie’s Famous Products was started in 2013 by one of my very close friends, Nancy.  Her husband created a product called, “Poppie’s Paint Powder” just for her as a more economical solution to making chalk paint.  Nancy felt like she had to share this amazing product with everyone so she created the business, “Poppie’s Famous Products.”

In 2013, after just launching the business, I had met Nancy at an event where I was promoting my boutique and after that became her very first retailer.  Though, I closed my shop down in 2014, Nancy & I became very good friends and I continued to help out with “Poppie’s” social media, website, events, and chalk painting classes.

In 2017, I had just finishing building a new website for Poppie’s and she broke the news that she wanted to move on from Poppie’s and sell the business.  Of course, I was offered the business before anyone as I had spent much time within her company. So my husband and I took over 🙂

I can say that owning a business is definitely a learning experience and not everyone is cut out for it.  I have dreamed of having my own business for as long as I can remember. I think the freedom has always enticed me though having that thought of “freedom” can also be a businesses’ downfall.

Unfortunately, the real reality of having a business is that you don’t actually have that freedom at all, whether you have employees or not.  I have found that running a business “the right way” is that you are available 24/7; because things happen all the time. Unplanned things and if it doesn’t get fixed, it could end up costing you.

Though this may not jive with every business; it does correspond with most that I am familiar with.

Even some of the wealthiest business owners I have met, who have hundreds of employees, don’t have the freedom of just turning of their phones and unplugging from their businesses, at least not completely.

I would have to say one of the things that worries “me” the most is failing.  Unfortunately, in business you have to take the good with the bad. We have good days and bad days. Don’t we all wish we could be like Amazon and have everyday be a good day!  But in reality, a small business like mine in a niche market takes time, hard work, and a lot of patience to grow 🙂

For my business I use Quickbooks.  I have used Quickbooks on and off since 2013.  I have pretty much had to teach myself. They have come so far in their capabilities and products; I actually started on desktop version which now to me is so foreign because I have been using the online version so long.  I have to say the last thing that I want to be doing is my accounting and my business is not profitable enough to realistically contract the duty out.

So with quickbooks on my computer, my tablet and my phone it cuts my accounting time in half which gives me more time to spend watching grey’s anatomy and law & order 🙂

Challenges — Yea there is always those.  Every Day in fact. It’s always something!

I think for me personally one of the things I struggle with, in my business and even personal/home life is time management.  Time management is actually very important for a business owner especially if they have many other outside responsibilities or like me (2) businesses & a million outside responsibilities.

I always feel like im terrible at balancing everything which ultimately can end up costing a business owner money; “Time is Money.”

I have tons of calendars and lists!  Alexa is a godsend as well on reminding me of things, of course as long as I remember to ask her to remind me!

At this time, I do not have any employees however, I do have a plan to hire in the near future.  I would actually love to hand off all the normal tasks I do and just be the brains behind the operation…wishful thinking I guess.  Also, good, reliable help is really hard to find!

On a final note; If there’s anything that I have learned from owning my own businesses, it’s that you really have to want it, believe in it and work hard to make it happen.

Final Note; This was an interview I did for a training class I was taking.

Work From Home ~ Arise Virtual Solutions

Aside from my new adventure blogging, I also work from home for a company called Arise.

I have been working for Arise since 2009 when I began working for At&t Mobility. As most people I was afraid of all the “scams” out there and even now their is so many more!

However, after much reluctance I signed up with them and I haven’t looked back.

Of course one of the hardest things (at least for me) working from home is holding yourself accountable and actually “showing up.”

With Arise, you control your schedule which is awesome but you technically are your own boss so if you have to take off for a week, you don’t have someone breathing down your back! Now even though this is a “GREAT” thing, it can also be a bad thing!

What is Arise Virtual Solutions?

It’s an Outsourced Customer Service Center ~ so basically they are the middle man between you and large companies they “service” (Apple, Comcast, Agero, Intuit, Carnival, Princess Cruises, Disney, Verizon, and Home Depot just to name a few…)

“YOU” work as an independent contractor for them which means “you” are your own boss… unless your signing up under another IBO (independent contractor, like myself) then you must have a business established (an llc preferably)… this is actually very easy to do (I will talk about this later)…

I originally signed up under another IBO which ultimately became a huge mistake because I was almost scammed…

BUT thankfully I was smart and realized early enough to change the outcome…I will say though something good did come out of it; I have worked with Arise as my own boss (IBO) & love it!

Now, what makes Arise get negative backlash is that you are required to pay for your training, which is unpaid.

I was skeptical about this at first as well, buttttt you have to remember its all part of being your own boss!

When you own a company, who pays for the training? The company owner…but if you are the company owner getting the training then guess your SOL and paying for your own training, huh…

Depending on the company, the demand of the class, the length of training & the date the class starts will help in determining the price of the class.

When I started with Arise, you couldn’t find a training under $200 but now I never see them over $200. They range from $15 – $150.

So hopefully now your wondering, where do I signup! You got it, go here! And don’t forget to say who referred you: CSP 771432

Also, feel free to email me if you have any questions, I love to help! Use “ARISE” in subject line!

What is Anxiety, Really?

Anxiety; a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.

Enough said.

For me, this is a feeling of everything I do is not good enough. What my mom would call a, “worry wart.”

Of course, over time, undiagnosed my worrying thoughts eventually grew into panic attacks and breakdowns.

Still for a long time this still continued to go “undiagnosed” as I just thought I was, “stressed out.” Putting a label on something that little did I know ended up being, GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder).

Yes, its a real diagnosis.

Kinda like what it sounds a “generalized” anxiety disorder – meaning you have anxiety like most americans caused by many different things so we will bunch you all as one…

Unfortunately, its too late for me. It is learned. Its in my bones. I don’t know how to not be “me” – the way I am. The sad realization is that I will be on medication for the rest of my life 🙁

I have to say the worst part of it is though, is trying to find the right medication that works for “you”. This process sucks. Going from withdrawl to another as a result of switching meds can be pretty agonizing and this is spoken from a recovering addict.

Yes, you read right, I’m a recovering addict. I have been clean & drug-free for over 9 years. It’s still pretty crazy to think about that person I used to be…but it makes sense though, undiagnosed for so long time, my doctors told me that I was “self-medicating”…

Then I met my husband and I knew that it was time to change…so I did…

For another time…another post…

Final Note: I am still waiting for your stories to start rolling in, my email is

Look forward to hearing from you…
